Over the past year, No Más Basura has completed the following projects:
- Weekly environmental education program for local high school students.
- Field trips for local students at every level to improve environmental awareness. Trips have included: Cabo Pulmo, Rancho Cacachilas, Cerralvo Island.
- Successful Annual Semana Santa educational campaign and clean-up, involving 5000 visitors to the local beaches. Twenty high school students and other local volunteers acted as community ambassadors as they roamed the beaches and communicated with every visitor. Over 25 tons of garbage and recycling were collected and removed from the beaches.
- Annual Mid-Winter Community Clean-Up involving local students and teachers from all levels, along with local community members and businesses. An estimated 5 tons of garbage was removed from the beaches and community.
- Year-round weekly recycling program. This program saves tons of glass, metal, plastic, styrofoam, and paper products from entering the dump. Many materials that would previously have been trash are now recycled locally.
- Initiation of glass crushing program for use in local construction.
- Lobbying of municipal and regional governments for improvement of local dump, garbage collection, and community resources.
- Organization and education of individual local businesses towards sustainability and improvement of their trash management.
- Supported the teachers and students of the elementary school to clean-up school grounds and plant trees.
Your donation goes directly towards the costs of implementing our programs. This is your opportunity to support our environment and give back to the local community and playground that we all cherish. Thank you for your continued support!
